Laser cutting is a fabrication method that can be used on metal and other materials such as plastic. This method typically uses optics and CNC (computer numerical control) to direct a high-powered laser to make the required cut(s).
A commercial laser cutting machine uses a motion control system to cut into the material according to a CNC or G-code of the pattern. The focused laser beam is directed at the material, which is then burned, melted, vaporised or is blown away by a jet of gas, leaving an edge with a high-quality surface finish.
